When your child is in PICU, they are placed on an air mattress that adjusts the pressure on the skin to prevent an injury from occurring. The bed will make noises consistently as it is always working. The nurse caring for your child will also turn your child regularly in the bed to prevent skin break down.
If you have questions or notice any changes in your child’s skin, please speak to a nurse or doctor caring for your child.
