Continuous Positive Airway Pressure or CPAP is a form of breathing support (respiratory support). Because it doesn’t require a breathing tube, it is called ‘non-invasive support’.
CPAP is the delivery of humidified (warm) oxygen and air at a continuous pressure. This opens up the lungs and helps the child to breathe. CPAP can be delivered via an interface such as a nasal or face mask.
Aim of CPAP
- To stabilise the child’s breathing
- To make breathing easier for the child
