Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure or BiPAP is a form of breathing support (respiratory support). Because it doesn’t require a breathing tube, it is called ‘non-invasive support’.
BiPAP is the delivery of humidified (warm) oxygen and air via a face mask at two levels of pressure- a continuous pressure plus an extra push to help when the child takes a breath.
Aim of BiPAP
- To stabilise the child’s breathing
- To make breathing easier for the child
- To support each breath the child takes
